Duccio di Buoninsegna (1255- 1318) was an Italian painter of the Middle Ages. His art represented the conclusion of the Italo-Byzantine style in Siena and created the foundation for Sienese Gothic art.

Duccio reshaped the Byzantine style with the new spirituality of the Gothic style. He is considered the founder of the Sienese school and one of the founders of Western Painting. His pupils were influential on Florentine art.
