Maxon Teases a Mesh. The Novice Is Already in the Room.

Maxon is a German software company, founded in 1986 by Harald Egel, Uwe Bärtels, and Harald Schneider, and based in Bad Homburg. It has been part of the Nemetschek Group since 2000. Cinema 4D is its 3D program: modeling, animation, simulation, and rendering. ZBrush, Redshift, and the Red Giant tools sit around it. Maxon sells them together as Maxon One, and says the software should be powerful and still approachable.

For a novice, that approachability is the offer. The assistant in Cinema 4D 2026.4 goes further. Maxon says it can take on work the artist has not learned yet, while the look of the scene stays theirs. The server is off until you turn it on. The documented first check is a cube, then a look at the viewport, because the chat can sound more certain than the scene. A beginner can undo that cube and see whether the scene is still editable.

On 28 October 2026 Maxon posted a video with the words “Coming soon.” On 29 October, The Verge and Creative Bloq wrote it up. The Verge says the video shows a model made from an uploaded image, with text and sketches as references. Maxon has not explained how the image and the sketch differ. People asked whether it can turn someone else’s picture into a model.

Creative Bloq says the video has little detail, and that artists were already angry. One comment asked for help with UVs, the dull job of building the model a second time. Creative Bloq’s conclusion is that nobody can yet say whether this is the Tencent integration, the assistant already in the program, or a third tool.

In March 2026 Maxon announced that Tencent’s HY 3D engine would generate a base model and UVs from text or an image, inside Cinema 4D, and that use would be optional. Maxon said it would arrive in late 2026. That announcement is not proof that the video is that tool.

A novice is being handed two futures. One is an assistant that does a dull job in a scene they can still open. The other is a generator that gives them a mesh they did not build. The video is still only “Coming soon.” The picture on this card is a geometric sculpture in a 3D workspace, made for the page. It is not a still from Maxon’s video.
