Titled "Royal Race Horse", the Neoclassical Pop Art artwork is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's sketch of a Horse also known as Gran Cavallo, created for the Sforza Horse Monument in 1482. A sculpture commissioned by Duke of Milan Ludovico il Moro, as a monument to his father Francesco Sforza.
The sculpture was designed to be the biggest equestrian statue in the world. Seventy tons of bronze were collected by Ludovico for casting the statue, which neared 8 meters (26 ft) in height. Da Vinci held an extensive study for its creation but eventually, he didn't complete the sculpture and only produced the clay model, which was later destroyed.
Five centuries later, da Vinci's surviving design materials were used as the basis for sculptures intended to bring the project to fruition. Like da Vinci says: "Art is never finished, only abandoned"
