Product Description

Titled "La Araucana," the Neoclassical Pop Art Artwork inspired by El Grecoโ€™s โ€œPortrait of the Poet Alonso de Ercilla y Zรบรฑiga", painted in the 1570s, currently at the collection of the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg

ย

The Artwork features Alonso de Ercilla y Zรบรฑiga,ย aย Spanish Epic Poet and nobleman serving King Philip II of Spain who appointed him as a soldier in the conquest of the Araucanians of Chile. A war that shaped the economics, politics, and social life of Chile for centuries.ย

ย

Ercillaย was famed as the author ofย "La Araucana"ย (1569โ€“89), which is considered the most celebrated Renaissance epic poem, and one of the most important works of the Spanish Golden Age (Siglo de Oro). The poem composed on the battlefield describes his personal experiences.ย

ย

Pablo Picasso was greatly influenced by El Greco throughout his career. El Greco's portrait of the poet hints at the tight connection between Painting and Poetry. A concept sourcing from the doctrine "ut pictura poesis", a Latin phrase meaning "as is painting so is poetry," a philosophical idea that originated from an earlier theory that Poetry is a speaking picture and painting silent poetry. During the Renaissance, scholars determined that painting was superior concluding sight preceded hearing. Pop Art forced art experts to abandon the academic "grading" science for the sake of science fiction, which affected the contemporary expression of both writing and painting.ย

ย

This Neoclassical Pop Artย artwork aims to bridge this ongoing argument, is perfect for lovers of both visual arts and poetry.ย ย

ย

A collectible original artwork. Created by the Neoclassical Pop Art studio as an original contemporary painting. A collectible statement piece where the old masters meet pop culture, made for true art lovers.
