Product Description

Ready for a garden party. Neoclassical Pop Art's garden-party palette turns a Neoclassical sitter into a new Pop work. Light yellow and blue make the countess airy and bright, for a sunlit room.

With “La Comtesse Néoclassique” in light yellow and blue, Neoclassical Pop Art makes Jacques-Louis David's “Portrait of Anne Marie Louise Thélusson, Countess of Sorcy”, painted in 1790 and now at the Neue Pinakothek, Munich, Germany, airy enough for a garden party.

Anne Marie was one of two sisters of the Geneva banker Jacques Rilliet. She married a Royal and enjoyed a privileged life providing her the opportunity to be painted by Jacques-Louis David, a preeminent French painter of the era.

Highly respected for leading the Neoclassical style, Jacques-Louis David completed a large number of portraits during his career of established figures from the upper classes and aristocracy producing some of the finest portrait paintings in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Politically active during the French Revolution, he served as the art dictator of the French Republic and later served Napoleon developing Empire style. The Portrait of Anne Marie Louise Thélusson was commissioned to decorate her mansion on the outskirts of Paris, makes a perfect piece to hang in a living room.

Summer colour around a poised sitter.
