Product Description
Titled 'La Femme,' this Neoclassical Pop Art artwork reimagines Sandro Botticelli's landmark painting "The Birth of Venus," created c. 1485 and currently located at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
One of the most significant Florentine Painters, Sandro Botticelli lived 1445-1510. A milestone of the 15th century Italian Renaissance, The Birth of Venus is perhaps the best-loved Italian show-stopper of the period.
Its story begins with the Greek myth of Kronos and Uranus. In return, Venus, the Goddess of Love and beauty, rises as a fully formed mature woman from the foam of a cresting wave and is carried on a shell drifting to shore in Cyprus.
In Botticelli's telling, the mythological Greek gods of the winds blow Venus to the shore.
The face of Venus is related to the model Simonetta Vespucci, whom all of Florence saw as a figure of feminine beauty.
That attention to feminine beauty, style, appeal and divine glam, crowned by Venus' famous hairstyle, has inspired Pop Culture artists from Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons to Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
Botticelli presents Venus as an icon of love and inner beauty, a wellspring for spiritual development drawn from Plato's philosophy, which holds that contemplating beauty draws the mind into a meditative state of harmony and love.
The painting was initially commissioned by the Medici Family, a major patron of Botticelli, and is said to have loomed over the family marital bed, a daring gesture for the time; it remains perfect wall art for the bedroom, and Venus brings her blessings of love to any space.
The Neoclassical Pop Art studio created this contemporary print. A collectible statement piece where the Old Masters meet pop culture, made for true art lovers.
