Titled 'La Femme,' this Neoclassical Pop Art artwork reimagines Sandro Botticelli's landmark painting "The Birth of Venus," created c. 1485 and currently located at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) was one of the most significant Florentine Painters. The Birth of Venus is a milestone: the much-loved Italian show-stopper that captures the pith of the 15th century Italian Renaissance.
The painting is inspired by the Greek myth of Kronos and Uranus. In return, Venus, the Goddess of Love and beauty, rises as a fully formed mature woman from the foam of a cresting wave and is carried on a shell drifting to shore in Cyprus.
Botticelli extends the myth, picturing Venus blown ashore by the mythological Greek gods of the winds.
