Sandro Botticelli's landmark painting "The Birth of Venus," created c. 1485 and currently located at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, inspires the Neoclassical Pop Art artwork titled 'La Femme.'

The painting is inspired by the Greek myth of Kronos and Uranus. In return, Venus, the Goddess of Love and beauty, rises as a fully formed mature woman from the foam of a cresting wave and is carried on a shell drifting to shore in Cyprus.
