Product Description

'La Femme' is a Neoclassical Pop Art artwork that answers Sandro Botticelli's landmark painting "The Birth of Venus," created c. 1485 and currently located at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

Among Florentine Painters, few rank higher than Sandro Botticelli, 1445-1510. Regarded as a milestone, The Birth of Venus may be the most appreciated Italian show-stopper of the 15th century Italian Renaissance, and it defines the era's spirit.

It all starts with the Greek myth of Kronos and Uranus. In return, Venus, the Goddess of Love and beauty, rises as a fully formed mature woman from the foam of a cresting wave and is carried on a shell drifting to shore in Cyprus.

Botticelli enriches the myth further, with the mythological Greek gods of the winds blowing Venus toward the shore.

Many connect Venus with the model Simonetta Vespucci, Florence's emblem of feminine beauty.

From Venus' hairstyle to her divine glam, Botticelli's eye for feminine beauty, style and appeal has inspired Pop Culture artists including Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

Drawing on Plato's philosophy, Botticelli makes Venus an icon of love, spiritual development and inner beauty, suggesting that contemplating an object of beauty eases the mind into a meditative state of harmony and love.

First commissioned by the Medici Family, Botticelli's major patrons, the painting is said to have hung above the family marital bed, a daring choice for its time; it still makes perfect wall art for the bedroom, though Venus brings her blessings of love to any space.

A contemporary print created by the Neoclassical Pop Art studio. Made for true art lovers, it is a collectible statement piece where the old masters meet pop culture.
