“Vitruvian Man” in blue is Neoclassical Pop Art's version of Leonardo da Vinci's ink-on-paper drawing “The Vitruvian Man”, drawn c. 1490 after Vitruvio and held at the Gabinetto dei disegni e delle stampe of the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, Italy. Under acrylic, its colour gives the drawing depth and a clean modern gleam.
The original Vitruvian Man drawing was created by Leonardo da Vinci around 1490, based on the proportions described by Vitruvius, the 1st-century BC Roman architect whose De architectura is the oldest surviving book on architecture. Known as "Le proporzioni del corpo umano secondo Vitruvio," or the "proportions of the human body according to Vitruvius", it demonstrates how the blending of mathematics and art provoked the Classical Renaissance symmetry and harmony.
