Product Description

Blue from trunk to tail, and as calm as deep water. The design is a new Neoclassical Pop Art piece, a Pop tribute recasting a Dutch master's drawing of a real elephant in a single cool tone. Printed on the front with soft terry behind, it suits a quiet bathroom as well as the pool.

Printed here is “My First Elephant”, an original Neoclassical Pop Art artwork inspired by “An Elephant”, the chalk study Rembrandt drew from life in 1637, now kept by the British Museum. Rendered entirely in blue, it lets the master's line lead, so every fold of the elephant's skin stays as legible as the day it was drawn.

Rembrandt's study stands as the earliest document of the Asian elephant species, Elephas maximus. In the words of the Natural History Museum in London: “Rembrandt’s paintings and sketches are the original and correct portrayal of the type specimen of an Asian elephant.”

The Neoclassical Pop Art print is titled “My First Elephant” in memory of the incredible 17th-century animal performer known as Hansken. Sword fighting, flag waving and hat wearing were her talents, and she was luckily documented by the greatest Master of her time, Rembrandt.

Quiet colour for a bathroom that prefers calm.
