During the 17th century, two lions lived in the zoo in Ghent, Belgium. Their names were Flandria and Brabantia. Archduke Albert and his wife, Isabella, that ruled the region, had a menagerie at their palace. Having a menagerie was the entertainment for the extremely wealthy people, and that's how Rubens managed to draw real lions.
The original drawing features a sad-looking lion coming out of the cave, with the second lion yawning behind.
