Product Description
Golden afternoon light across an emperor and his hunting dog. The golden light comes from Neoclassical Pop Art, whose Pop version turns the Habsburg portrait into new art. A natural choice for collectors who love dogs as much as old masters.
Neoclassical Pop Art's “Charles V: The King's Dog” bathes “Portrait of Charles V with a Dog” by Titian (1533, the Museo del Prado in Madrid) in golden afternoon light, a warm reading of imperial calm.
The portrait features Karl V, Holy Roman Emperor with a hunting dog.
It is a copy or reinterpretation of a portrait of Karl painted in 1532 by Jakob Seisenegger. That portrait was natural but had not pleased Karl and during Titian's stay in Bologna in 1533, he paid Titian 500 ducats to paint a new version of it. This new version is similar to its predecessor but completely transforms its composition. It later inspired Goya's 1799 Karl IV in his Hunting Clothes.
This painting is a limited edition of 10.
