Product Description
Vincent Van Gogh's "Self Portrait," created in 1889 and currently located at Musée d'Orsay, Paris, inspires the Neoclassical Pop Art artwork titled "The Shadow Self-Portrait."
Following the Old Masters, Van Gogh turned to a mirror and became his own model. Ten years of in-depth self-observation and self-study generated over forty-three self-portraits, paintings or drawings.
Thus he wrote to his sister: "I am looking for a deeper likeness than that obtained by a photographer." And later to his brother: "People say, and I am willing to believe it, that it is hard to know yourself. But it is
not easy to paint yourself, either. The portraits painted by Rembrandt are more than a view of nature, they are more like a revelation".
Art Historians still debate if this was Van Gogh's last Self Portrait, made after his admission to hospital following the mutilation of his ear and before his tragic death.
Van Gogh sent the painting to his brother, the art dealer Theo, with a letter saying: "I hope you will notice that my facial expressions have become much calmer, although my eyes have the same insecure look as
before, or so it appears to me."
Unlike the original therapeutic green color, the neoclassical pop art artwork arrives as a classical pop art composition of four, shining out a pop of colors with a double image for the shadow that shadowed Van Gogh's self-perception.
This painting is a limited edition of 3.
Collectible, and an original artwork. The Neoclassical Pop Art studio created it as an original contemporary painting. For true art lovers: a collectible statement piece in which the old masters meet pop culture.
