Product Description
Vincent Van Gogh's "Self Portrait," created in 1889 and currently located at Musรฉe d'Orsay, Paris, inspires the Neoclassical Pop Art artwork "Shadow."
Using a mirror, Van Gogh followed the Old Masters and painted himself as a model. Over forty-three self-portraits, paintings or drawings came from ten years of in-depth self-observation and self-study.
Thus he wrote to his sister: "I am looking for a deeper likeness than that obtained by a photographer." And later to his brother: "People say, and I am willing to believe it, that it is hard to know yourself. Painting yourself is no easier. The portraits painted by Rembrandt are more than a view of nature, they are more like a revelation".
Art Historians still debate if this was Van Gogh's last Self Portrait, made after his admission to hospital following the mutilation of his ear and before his tragic death.
To his brother, the art dealer Theo, Van Gogh sent the painting along with a letter: "I hope you will notice that my facial expressions have become much calmer, although my eyes have the same insecure look as before, or so it appears to me."
In a classical pop art composition of four, the neoclassical pop art artwork shines out a pop of colors, with a double image representing the shadow that shadowed Van Gogh's self-perception.
An original artwork to collect. It was created as an original contemporary painting by the Neoclassical Pop Art studio. Made for true art lovers, it is a collectible statement piece where the old masters meet pop culture.
