Van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch Post Impressionist painter. He suffered from psychotic episodes, and the art helped him to stay balanced. His friendship with the French Painter Gauguin, ended after he threatened him with a razor, and while in rage, cut off his ear.

Influenced by Japanese art, he studied eastern philosophy to enrich his art. He completed 2100 artworks but managed to sell only one and was considered a failure during his time. His reputation began to grow in the early 20th century and after his painting style influenced German Expressionists. Today, Vincent van Gogh is considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt.

"As for me, I am rather often uneasy in my mind because I think that my life has not been calm enough. All those bitter disappointments, adversities, changes keep me from developing fully and naturally in my artistic care" Vincent van Gogh.
